This is a pretty small, bite sized post while I put together the thoughts for my next post. However, this is a bit of a PSA for those who mainly rely on SpaceHey to keep up with their friends, and such: You're putting too much reliance on one metal chain!
Over the past year, SpaceHey has alone locked out so many people from different regions. Mainly the British, Australians, Brazilians, and yeah, a couple of specific Americans.
When you put your reliance for keeping up with your friends and everything else (like blogging) all on one platform, and that platform gives like that, you're pretty much putting an uncomfortable (and way too much) trust on a platform to not go under. And a lot of platforms have died, be it after ten years or after ten days.
There is valid reasons to be lazy, and yes, I understand setting everything back up is hard! This won't be viable for everyone, and I understand that there are many reasons you stay here; all power to you! Just don't forget that if SpaceHey ever goes poof in your region (or altogether), you're losing all of your friends and posts. So at the least, it doesn't hurt to back up some of your work if you haven't!
For the rest of you, a lot of SpaceHey's alternatives don't migrate your profile very well! But when you put reliance on one website to keep you in touch with your friends and have no mirrors of your work or any other place to reach out to friends, you'll lose everything when SpaceHey is gone, regardless of it's just "blocked" or entirely wiped off it's server hard drives.
Of course, if you do try this, remember to research platforms and be wise where you go. But just keep in mind that the hope that your data and friends will still be around is decided by if one chain breaks. And that chain, for some of you, is literally just SpaceHey.
Just remember that you need a backup plan when SpaceHey inevitably falls under, and be safe on your journey! Your MySpace revival presence is about the same as your data: One place is no backups, two places are one, three places are two!
In the meantime, if your region is blocked and you aren't already, please consider downloading a VPN to continue sticking with us! Proton is free and pretty generous, however there are many other options that may work for you instead! Here is a list of some of the recommended VPNs the privacy and internet prosumer community recommend, you don't need port forwarding if you don't torrent or host game servers, best of luck for the future of the world!
(This post applies to other platforms as well, but SpaceHey is a big example)
