Mini sized rant, just need to get this off my chest and draw attention to this clownery.
The official Mastodon app for Android requires at minimum Android 6.0, released in September 2015, and generally the average version you can expect for bad tablets is maybe Android 9. The most intensive app i can think of that requires a new version of Android is Bitwarden asking for Android 10, which was released in September 2019.
For reference, the same app for iOS, requires iOS 18.6, a version released in July 2025. The last model of iPhone that can't update to iOS 26 is the XR/XS lineup from roughly September 2018. iOS 18 was first veiled in about June 2024.
The same social media app, across two platforms, are ten years apart. A 2018 iPhone with a 2024 version of iOS is more out of date to app developers than an Android version from 2015, that is slapped on thousands of ancient, rusty pieces of garbage hardware.
An android phone from ten years ago, by total fucking coincidence, is less out of date than an iPhone from six years ago. A phone from ten years ago can run a social media app, that an OS from 2024 cannot.
Let that think in for a minute, are you getting this? Your tablet from literally ten years ago, can run a social media app while a high tech phone from 2018 cannot. An Android version (10.0) from 2019, can run an app that requires at minimum an iOS version from 2021.
A PHONE FROM 2016 CAN RUN A PASSWORD MANAGER WHILE A PHONE FROM 2019 CAN RUN THAT, AND A SOCIAL MEDIA APP.
WHO THE FUCK LETS THIS HAPPEN. You genuinely CANNOT make this shit the fuck up. You can put this together, right? A budget phone running ten years old software can beat a phone with 2024 FIRMWARE.
